Biochemistry, Behavioral Science, Botany, Microbiology, and Physics! These were the fields of science in which seventh and eighth grade students from Villa Maria Elementary presented the results of their original research at the Seventy-eighth Annual State Meeting of the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science. The meeting was held at The Pennsylvania State University in State College on May 13-15. Students earned the privilege of participating in the state meet by achieving a First Award at the Region 10 Meeting, which was held in February. The students who presented projects and their awards are as follows: Grade 7 Sara D’Andrea – Second Award Sarah Vicary – First Award Anna Czulewicz – Second Award Caralyn Wilcox – First Award Tatum Yusz – Second Award Tommy Russell – Second Award Grade 8 Maddie Nawrocki – Second Award Francesco Corso – First Award Amelia Eagley – Second Award Xavier Zonna – Second Award Alex Gool – First Award Jesse Edwards-Borowicz – First Award Maria Borowy – Second Award Ashley Khouri – Second Award Caitlin Strasser – Second Award Rachel Mannino – First Award Caralyn Wilcox – First Award Tommy Russell – Second Award Tatum Yusz – Second Award Kaia Russell – Second Award Hannah Marchant – Second Award Kelly Fehr – Second Award Justice Alleruzzo – Second Award Emma Shimek – Second Award
Additionally, student who earned a second award at the regional meet were invited to attend the state meet as technicians. We were very fortunate this year to have 4 of our Villa students act as techs: Alex Al-Mandhrey, Nick Carver, Megan Metzler, and Taylor McMahon. Without them our meets do not run as smoothly as they do.
We cannot thank our chaperones enough: Mrs. Ingols, Dr. and Mrs. Alleruzzo, Mr. Corso, Mrs. Marchant, Ms. Tome, Mrs. Strasser, and Mrs. Wardi-Zonna were invaluable. Region 10 always has the best chaperones and VME chaperones are the best of the best. We cannot thank you enough for giving your time and kindness to all these students.
This year was a great one for science at VME and we are all looking forward to next year. |
