Welcome to the Physical Education program @ VME ! We offer Aquatics and Health/Wellness in addition to regular P.E. classes.

VME is unique in the fact that we utilize our Olympic-length indoor pool as a major part of our physical education program.  All aquatic lessons

are taught within the guidelines of the American Red Cross Learn-To-Swim program.

Students in Preschool/4 year-olds have the opportunity to swim in the fall and the spring.

               Students in Kindergarten- Gr.8 have a P.E. class weekly throughout the school year.  Kindergarten enjoys swim classes in the fall and spring terms;

regular "gym" classes during the winter term.  A health/wellness component is added  to the curriculum in Gr.1; that component continues through the

         8th grade.

GRADING SCALE FOR GRADES 5-8......P.E. grades are based on: 1) being prepared for class

                                                                                                    2) participating and giving your best effort

                                                                                                    3) demonstrating good conduct and good sportsmanship

Daily Class Rubric:    3 points- Student is prepared for class and actively participates to the best of their ability.

2 points- Student is prepared but gives a reduced effort in class activities.

1 point- Student is prepared but does not actively participate in class activities OR student is UNPREPARED and completes

written assignment during class. *(see below)

0 points- Student is not prepared and does not complete written assignment.

-absence from school will not affect students' grade.

                           - a medical excuse is required for long-term inability to participate.

-a written parental/guardian excuse is required if student cannot participate for the day. ( this will not affect the students' grade; however,

any reason the student needs to be excused for MORE THAN ONE CLASS PERIOD requires a medical excuse.)

         * Students will be given ONE class per term to be unprepared (without a written excuse) and earn 1 point for their written assignment. After that, they

have ONE WEEK of the missed class to provide a written parental/guardian excuse. If not received, a ZERO will be recorded for that class.
