Music and The Arts
At Villa Maria Elementary, music has always been an integral part of the daily curriculum. This can be seen today, 115 years after the Sister’s of St. Joseph began the tradition with every student required to learn the piano. The difference now, is how we have expanded on this basic belief, that art and music are necessary to each child’s educational and emotional development.
On any given day our halls are filled with beautiful voices from our music room, or perhaps our youngest students learning percussion in the Kindermusik room. Plucking from the harp and strumming from guitars might break the silence. Minuets and scales abound from piano rooms. Combine this ear candy with the smells of fresh paint and paste and the sight of paper-mache creations displayed as you enter the school, you see for yourself the devotion to the arts we have at VME.
As other schools have cut art and music courses Villa is determined to have dedicated teachers for these necessary subjects.
