VME Family Association

WHAT IS THE FAMILY ASSOCIATION?  

The VME Family Association was started in 1988. The purpose for the Association was the same then as it is today:  

To help build community among school families and faculty through gatherings and programs that enhance the social, academic, artistic, athletic, and spiritual growth of the students of Villa.

To provide financial assistance through sponsored events that enhance the sense of community within the school community.  In those days parents helped organize the cafeteria volunteers, the annual Book Fair, a Family Fun Night, and the Villa Gate Dinner/Auction. Since we were a small school and enrolled students from numerous school districts, the activities were designed to give parents an opportunity to get to know each other. Throughout the years the activities have grown to include the Halloween Costume Dance for students, the Christmas Store, and the Fall Villapalooza. These have expanded beyond our wildest expectations. The Back-to-School Coffee was recently added to provide a gathering place for the current and new parents on the first day of every new school year. Villa Idol was a new event this year. Several projects and activities have become so successful that they are now a source of income for the school. The Father/Daughter Spring Dance, the Bake Sale at November conferences, and the Basket Raffle during Catholic Schools Week raise between $15,000 and $20,000 each year. The structure of the organization has always been informal with volunteers who come forward to help co-chair the organization and various activities. All parents are encouraged to get involved and to bring new ideas to the meetings.

LEAD PARENTS

As in years past we will make every attempt to schedule “two” Lead Parents per class. Lead Parents will need to contact each other and then meet with their individual teacher to find out what will be needed for the school year.

Please keep in mind that the major task of a Lead Parent is to get parent volunteers for various activities in your child’s classroom. You will also be asked to join the other Lead Parents in your grade to plan an Early Dismissal Faculty Luncheon (for grades 2 thru 8 only…beginning with 8th Grade in October.)

FAMILY ASSOCIATION MEETING
 
Minutes from February Meeting

Please join us for our next meeting on Tuesday April 20 at 12:00pm in the Home Ec Room.

FAMILY ASSOCIATION NEWS 

On March 14th our annual Mother/Son Bowling Event was held at Greengarden Lanes. Once again this year it was well attended with a Full House! We have some great bowlers in grades Preschool right up to 8th Grade. The day was a lot of fun for our boys and their moms. Again we would like to thank the coordinators, Therese Duckett,
Patty Gool, and Jill Cuthbertson for all of their hard work.

Our Early Dismissal Faculty Luncheons moved right along. The last luncheon of the year was held on April 21st and hosted by Second Grade. This was a special planned luncheon for the faculty since there was not an Early Dismissal Day in April. We would like to thank Beth Campbell for coordinating this luncheon.
The Family Association would like to thank all of our VME Families that supported and volunteered for the Faculty Luncheons throughout the year. The faculty really does appreciate your generosity.

Just a reminder, TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK is the Week of May 3rd. Letters were sent out to all of our Lead Parents in regards to this. Villa Families, please remember our dedicated VME Teachers during this week.
We would like to thank the Preschool, Kindergarten and First Grade Families that sent in their donations for the Faculty Lounge during this week. These grades will be hosting snacks and a luncheon during Teacher Appreciation Week for all of faculty to enjoy.
We are still accepting donations from these grades and it is not too late to send it in.

Our most recent Family Association Meeting was held on April 20th. Minutes from the meeting can be found on the VME Website under the Family Association Link. Our last Family Association Meeting will be held on May 11th at 12:00 in the Home-EC Room. We encourage everyone to attend and get involved.

Our final Event of the year will be our Father/Daughter Masquerade Ball. Invitations were mailed out to all girls in grades Preschool through 8th. RSVP’s were due back on April 16th. This event will take place once again this year at the Erie Maennerchor Club on May 1st. Our coordinators, Malinda Worly and Kimberly Down have been hard at work planning this event. This is always such a special evening for the Dads and their daughters. We hope everyone has a memorable evening.

We would like to take this opportunity to THANK all of our Event Coordinators, Volunteers and Lead Parents. These events and classroom activities throughout the year would not take place without all of your hard work and dedication. It has been a true pleasure to work with all of you over the years.
