Catholic Schools Week 2012 will be celebrated the week of January 29 -February 4. Many events will mark this special time. See below for a schedule.
All Week School-wide Service Project: Annual collection for the needy: Students donate items for families in the Erie area who are in need in order to be part of the theme days. These items will be collected, counted, and the collection results will be displayed by the Student Council. Students will be able to view these charts in order to see the progress from each floor. Preschool & First Floor Students - mittens, gloves, hats, scarves Second Floor Students - socks, slippers Third Floor Students - Personal care items: soap, shampoo, conditioner, disposable razors, deodorant, lotions, chapstick, toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, brushes, shaving cream, nail files, etc.
Academics: All K-8 classrooms will be participating in an Artist of the Month Project during Catholic Schools Week. We at VME use Artist of the Month to integrate the arts into our regular curriculum in a student driven manner. This is an opportunity for the students in each class to creatively show their mastery of a certain content area within their current studies, without having to utilize the typical paper/pencil assessments.
Also, the Student Council is going to be holding a Trivia contest over the morning announcements each day of this week. If enough students from each floor get the question correct, the student will earn extra points that will be applied to their team at the beginning of the Student/Faculty Volleyball Game to be held on Friday. If not enough of the students answer the question correctly, the faculty will be awarded extra points at the beginning of the volleyball game.
Sunday January 29: Open House 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. If you or someone you know is considering Catholic school for their children’s education, please visit us at our annual Open House. Tour our school and see our beautiful 40-acre campus, meet our teachers and staff, and learn about all the great things VME has to offer.
Families with children in preschool through Grade 8 are welcome to attend. Those families registering for admission at the Open House for the new school year will have the chance to win a $500 scholarship to be applied towards tuition.
